The First Meeting Between CAMFEBA, GMAC, and ILO IPEC

Topic: Seeking for Support and Cooperation between CAMFEBA and GMAC in Implementing the CAMFEBA-ILO IPEC Joint Action Program on the Child Labour Elimination

On 04 November 2011 at 10 a.m. at GMAC Office, the  meeting between CAMFEBA, GMAC, and ILO IPEC was convened to discuss on the possible means that GMAC could contribute to support the activities of CAMFEBA in implementing the CAMFEBA-ILO IPEC Joint Action Program on the Child Labour Elimination in Cambodia, mainly focusing  on how to get the information against child labour and to widely disseminate across village in Cambodia through workers employed in the garment factories--members of GMAC.

Based on the discussion during the meeting, the agreement was made as below:

  1. Setting up a Steering Committee, which is comprised of  7 members:
  • One representative from CAMFEBA;
  • One representative from ILO;
  • One representative from GMAC;
  • One representative from Trade Union; and
  • Three representatives from different factory owners

The purpose of setting up this committee is to:

A. Work together on the appropriate materials designed for the workers (sticker/leaflet)

B. Discuss on the training materials (what should be included) for the Champions, selected from the factories of GMAC members

C. GMAC will help to identify and select the Key Personnel/Champion (the person who could disseminate information or the materials such as leaflet or sticker on the child labour elimination to the workers effectively) from the factories of their members or their trade union representatives.

Setting up the Cambodian Business Alliance against Child Labour (CBaaC) to keep them informed of the works done by the Cambodian Employers to combat child labour issue and also to mobilize resource/fund to support the activities of the project to ensure the continuation of the action against child labour within and beyond the project, GMAC was willing to be a member, but not taking the lead of this coalition. However, regarding setting up the list of buyers of GMAC to keep them updated of the work done by the Cambodian Employers to combat child labour issue and also to mobilize fund to support the activities of the project, GMAC would be happy to give it to the project team once it was done, since now, th list  has not been completed yet by GMAC, but they planned to develop one for their own use as well.
